Next phase in integration: Aligning experience and design systems for AxDraft and ContractWorks
As part of the next phase of integrating ContractWorks and Axdraft, two standalone legal software applications, into a unified platform, I was responsible for the UI and UX redesign across key workflows and pages. This phase focused on aligning the experience, improving usability, and ensuring design consistency throughout the integrated product.
To support a smooth and scalable integration, we approached the redesign incrementally—updating the UI and UX one workflow or section at a time. The overarching goal was to transition all of Axdraft's interface to align with ContractWorks’ design system, creating a cohesive, unified experience across the integrated product.
As the sole designer on this project, I was responsible for leading all aspects of the design work—from early exploration to final handoff. I worked closely with the development team throughout the process to ensure smooth collaboration, clarify edge cases, and manage all design deliverables. This close partnership allowed us to move efficiently while maintaining a high level of quality and consistency. The process was broken down into the following phases:
I conducted a full audit of Axdraft's existing UI, mapped it to ContractWorks' design system, and identified usability pain points through data analysis and stakeholder interviews.
Adopted an iterative approach, redesigning one section at a time based on usage data, business impact, and technical feasibility.
Created low- and mid-fidelity wireframes to explore layouts and validate ideas with stakeholders and engineers before finalizing visuals.
Applied ContractWorks' design system, replaced outdated elements, and designed new components where needed for scalable, consistent UI.
Provided detailed specs in Figma, collaborated on implementation, and led design QA to ensure alignment with the design vision.
These examples highlight how major UI and workflow updates were documented during the redesign process:
This was an end-to-end project that I owned as the sole designer—from initial discovery and workflow mapping to visual design and developer handoff. At this stage, the updated designs are in development and QA. Since the changes have not yet been released to production, usage metrics and performance data are still pending. Based on usability testing and stakeholder feedback, we expect the redesign to improve task clarity, reduce user friction, and create a more consistent experience across the integrated product.
